Founded in 1927 by Hilda Leyel as ‘the Society of Herbalists’, the Herb Society is the foremost proponent of herbs and all their uses in the UK.
By encompassing all aspects of herbs and their many uses, the Herb Society provides a central focus, bringing together everyone with an interest in herbs, in whatever capacity.
As well as welcoming in all all herb-lovers, whether amateur or professional, the Herb Society reaches out across the UK through our network of Ambassadors.
Herb Society Ambassadors are individuals who embed herbs within their life and work and focus efforts on engaging and inspiring others in the use of herbs. As well as their geographical spread across the UK, the Ambassadors represent a spread of herbal wisdom and practical application expertise that expands way beyond what any one individual could master in a lifetime. We are privileged to be able to count on this body of experts to support the Herb Society’s work, share their vast knowledge and, importantly, to enable the Herb Society to reach individuals across the UK with their lively interaction encompassing events, talks, training and more.
The herbal tradition is to share knowledge, learn from others, and to be inspired by the enthusiasm with which those who understand and love herbs talk about their work and interests. Our network of 20 Ambassadors enable skills, knowledge and fascinating stories to be spread far and wide. We look forward to introducing these inspiring people to you through our ‘Meet the Ambassadors’ blog series.
Meet: Seed SistAs
Vibrant proponents of the medicinal and magical aspects of herbs, Seed SistAs will be known to many through their books, blogs and colourful appearances and herbal happenings across the country. Here they tell us in their own words who they are, how they work and how you can get involved.

We are the Seed SistAs—herbalists, educators, activists, and plant lovers—passionate about reconnecting people with plants. At the heart of our work is a simple but transformative belief: through community medicine gardens, we can educate, inspire, and heal—not just ourselves, but our communities and the Earth.
We want everyone to feel confident connecting, harvesting and even growing their own herbal medicine where they can, learning the language of plants, and reclaiming a sense of agency in their health and relationship with nature. This is the sustainability we practise: personal, communal, and ecological.
Over 25 years ago, we met while studying herbal medicine. That shared passion grew into Sensory Solutions Herbal Evolution, a Community Interest Company rooted in empowerment, education, and plant-based wellbeing. You can read more about our journey here.
We believe that herbalism is the people’s medicine, and we’re committed to keeping it accessible. That’s why we offer annual community garden grants, supporting projects that reconnect people with the land and promote sustainable herbal practice.
We also offer part funded places for full-time carers and people living with disabilities to join our vibrant online learning community, The Coven of Herbal Secrets—a space to explore magical herbalism and deepen plant connection.
Through gardens, online learning, sensory herbalism, and practical plant wisdom, we’re building a movement—one rooted in relationship, resilience, and regeneration.
Join us in planting the seeds of a more connected, sustainable future.
