Forage – Wild Plants to Gather, Cook and Eat by Liz Knight, illustrated by Rachel Pedder-Smith

The combination of beautiful illustrations by artist Rachel Pedder-Smith, and the knowledge of Liz Knight, has produced this wonderful hard backed book as a guide to encourage the reader into foraging, which may well be from their own garden.

Trees, shrubs and herbs, wild and otherwise are in this book, focusing on food and drink. There are recipes for each of the 50 listed plants, many having three recipes for each to tempt you to celebrate the natural world.

Liz is a professional forager and has a business supplying her products even to the well-known London store, Fortnum ad Mason. I had the pleasure of meeting Liz some years ago and we talked about books and the need to pass on knowledge, while encouraging people to gain confidence in something that gives great satisfaction, fun and reward. Recently Liz has been on TV with Kate Humble and in our magazine, sharing her love of nature and teaching, which is such an important process as our founder Hilda Leyel realised, hence our educational charity.

If you need a treat this is the book for you or it may be someone you want to encourage to get outside and explore nature, it won’t disappoint but lead you on to more connections and finds.
