Digestion, the Key to Good Health: Gastro-Intestinal Wellbeing Using Herbs and Natural Healing
I met Christine Herbert at a herbal conference a few years ago and although they say not to meet your heroes, she didn’t disappoint, in fact she felt like a kindred spirit. We both have a keen understanding that all disease begins in the gut, as Hippocrates (460 – 370BC) taught centuries before.
This well researched book is simple to follow, as are the diagrams that help explain how we human function. The section on ‘Signs and symptoms that something is going wrong’ teaches us to pay attention to our bodies, as we move to how we heal. Food and drink, fermenting, exercise, mental health and herbs all feature, as Christine is a Herbalist with years of personal experience in both her practice and research. She also has a background as a biomedical scientist.
The section on herbs is specifically for the digestive system, with information on the various ways to administer them. There is a mix of predominantly Western herbs, but also Ayurvedic and some Chinese, which Christine has experience of working with.
Recipes, references and studies are throughout, along with a Materia Medica and myth busting information. The section on ‘What can go wrong and how to put it right’, will be invaluable to the reader. This book can clear the way for many to improve their understanding of digestion and bring the wisdom to heal.
