We are a small nursery within a colourful, secluded garden in a residential setting. Established in 1989 we grow a range of over 100 herbs, wild flowers and our favourite cottage garden perennials.
We happily give friendly advice and information about growing herbs and have garden design knowledge and experience. We can provide talks covering the history of herbs and their culinary, medicinal and more unusual uses.

The International Register of Consultant Herbalists (IRCH) was established in 1960 as both a training school and a register of qualified herbalists. The IRCH diploma has undergone updating over the past 60+ years to incorporate ongoing research. It is a carefully structured blended learning course leading to a professional qualification. Its flexible approach offers an opportunity to study at your own pace. It covers fourteen units over four modules (Anatomy & Physiology; Naturopathic Practice; Materia Medica; Herbal Medicine and Practice Management) as well as required Clinical Observations & supervised Practice. Mandatory contact hours include attendance at our summer school, seminars, monthly on-line seminar tutorials and the annual conference. With all of our tutors experienced and practicing herbalists, it offers a unique training in traditional Western Herbal Medicine and as such does take commitment – it takes approximately 5-6 years to complete the course.

The organisation was first conceived in 1864 and was formally registered as the National Association of Medical Herbalists, becoming the National Institute in 1954, when the Secretary of State approved our level of expertise to use this protected title. Today, the Institute has members throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.
Our members have completed degree level qualifications or equivalent. We ensure high standards of education in herbal medicine and work to raise the professional standing of medical herbalists.

The Physic Garden is a medicinal garden hand built by and for women in Nelson, Lancashire.
Situated alongside the Leeds-to-Liverpool canal The Physic Garden is home to over 150 medicinal plants, it’s a space to enjoy, to learn about these plants and ourselves.
Entrance is free during monthly open afternoons, plant studies, workshops and artist collaborations. Groups, and individuals can also make arrangements to visit out of opening hours. All women are welcome.
The Physic Garden is an artwork by Idle Women created to last for 100 years. Idle Women is an art and social justice collaboration. Our projects reach for something beyond the horizon, creating transformative spaces for women that can’t be cut, closed or taken away.
Funds were raised by our community to purchase the land for the garden which is co-owned by Idle Women and Humraaz.The Physic Garden, Hargreaves Street, Nelson, BB9 7BX.

The School of Herbal Medicine is an educational charity which trains practitioners of Western Herbal Medicine.
Our 6-year programme offers rigorous, practice-centred training for those who want to work confidently with medicinal plants. Our teaching combines traditional herbal knowledge with modern clinical understanding, giving students a grounded, evidence-aware approach to plant medicine. Courses blend classroom learning, field botany, medicine-making, and supervised clinical experience, ensuring graduates develop both skill and discernment. Modules in development include Seaweeds, Mushrooms and Gemmotherapy.
We keep cohorts small to support close mentoring and genuine hands-on learning. Based in Somerset, UK the school is easily accessible from the M5 and to the bus and train stations making it possible to attend by public transport.
As a school, we are known for our curriculum vigour, high teaching standards, and excellent examination skills programme. This includes our well attended community student clinic which delivers weekly face-to-face interaction with patients.

Founded in 1970, the award-winning Weald & Downland Living Museum is a leading museum of historic buildings in England, covering 40 acres in the South Downs National Park in West Sussex.
It includes over 50 historic buildings dating from 950AD to the 19th century, re-erected from their original sites in south east England, together with period gardens, traditional farm animals and a mill pond. The exhibit buildings range from a reconstruction of a Saxon hall house to working buildings of the late 19th century.
The Museum also holds excellent collections relating to rural life, including agriculture, domestic life, trades and industries, and transport. As well as bringing to life the homes, farmsteads and rural industries represented by its collections and exhibits, other themes are strongly represented at the Museum, including landscape, agriculture, animal husbandry, science and sustainability.

The Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners is unique in the UK, in that we accept qualified herbalists from a wide range of traditions and positively value diversity within our ranks. The URHP was founded in 1997. Our members have completed extensive training and follow a comprehensive Code of Ethics and Conduct. As well as being fully qualified herbalists, some of our members are also kinesiologists, nurses, doctors, homeopaths, psychotherapists, acupuncturists and reiki practitioners.We are part of the EHTPA, the European Herbal and Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, involved with work and campaigns to guarantee the preservation and continuation of herbal medicine. We ensure that herbal training continues to be offered at a high standard by the accreditation and validation of courses.The URHP now use a registered trademark, the Herbmark, so that the public know they are consulting with a highly qualified practitioner and being prescribed treatments they can trust.
