The Association of Master Herbalists was founded in 1995. The Association has, from the beginning, had a strong affinity to the North American eclectic school, notably Dr John R Christopher who was the founder of the School of Natural Healing in 1953.

The Practitioner members of the Association of Master Herbalists, (AMH), practice a form of Natural Healing which includes Herbal Medicine and a blend of Naturopathic techniques such as detoxification, nutrition, hydrotherapy, fasting and other ways to assist the patient back to health.

The Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP) is the UK’s largest professional body for naturopaths, herbalists, nutritional therapists, homeopaths, and acupuncturists.

For practitioners, we offer a vibrant professional community with free monthly herbal CPD webinars and access to the ANP Learning Hub—featuring 100+ expert-led webinars across naturopathy, nutrition, homeopathy, and herbal medicine. Members also benefit from mentoring, our unique herb–drug–nutrient interactions database, and the support of the General Naturopathic Council.

Betonica is a four year medical herbalist training programme based on the border of Somerset and Devon. Our mission is to build and sustain a herbal community that is part of the wider ecology of the herbal medicine world both nationally and globally. We train professional herbalists with an in-depth knowledge of medicine and clinical practice, able to support their community and work alongside other health practitioners.

Our herbal clinics are subsidised so that more people are able to access professional herbalist care.

We also offer home herbalist courses both online and in person so that everyone can access the learning that suits them. Through these we aim to empower people with the knowledge to access the healing herbs for the coughs, colds, bumps and bruises that we all experience in life.

We are a small nursery within a colourful, secluded garden in a residential setting.  Established in 1989 we grow a range of over 100 herbs, wild flowers and our favourite cottage garden perennials.

We happily give friendly advice and information about growing herbs and have garden design knowledge and experience.  We can provide talks covering the history of herbs and their culinary, medicinal and more unusual uses.

Caley’s Apothecary is family-owned and founded by medical herbalist, Stephanie Caley, MNIMH. We are suppliers of certified organic herbs and tea blends, and naturally, all other apothecary, wellness, and eco-living necessities; from tinctures to supplements, oils to incenses, raw base ingredients to bottles and jars, supplements to natural body & home care, refills to cloth nappies & specialist books to crystals. Our medical herbalist holds one-to-one consultations and custom blends herbs for the individual, according to their personal needs. She has also co-authored book 500 Treatments for 100 Ailments, and helps with training students of herbal medicine in clinic. Holistic care of self, family, home and environment remain our focus.

The Crafty Herbalist Academy, founded in 2022 by medical herbalist Kristine De Block, weaves together traditional plant knowledge and modern herbal practice. Students gain access to video lessons, detailed handouts, live Zoom classes, remedy-making tutorials, seasonal recipe booklets, a library of herbal monographs, and foraging videos to support confident plant identification and safe harvesting. Heartwood Education was established in 2016 to provide a range of easily accessible herbal medicine courses for the digital age.

We provide a year-long online Foundation Course in herbal medicine, which can be taken purely for pleasure and self-care, or used as a stepping stone to our Professional Course.Taking the best of what we have learnt from the provision of herbal medicine degrees in Higher Education and combining it with the experience of a wide range of herbalists and educators and a love of plants, the Professional Course, which can be taken over four or six years, blends online education with both online and face-to-face clinical training in the real-world practices of herbalists in the UK and beyond.

The International Register of Consultant Herbalists (IRCH) was established in 1960 as both a training school and a register of qualified herbalists. The IRCH diploma has undergone updating over the past 60+ years to incorporate ongoing research. It is a carefully structured blended learning course leading to a professional qualification. Its flexible approach offers an opportunity to study at your own pace. It covers fourteen units over four modules (Anatomy & Physiology; Naturopathic Practice; Materia Medica; Herbal Medicine and Practice Management) as well as required Clinical Observations & supervised Practice. Mandatory contact hours include attendance at our summer school, seminars, monthly on-line seminar tutorials and the annual conference. With all of our tutors experienced and practicing herbalists, it offers a unique training in traditional Western Herbal Medicine and as such does take commitment – it takes approximately 5-6 years to complete the course.

John & Hugh grow a wide range of medicinal and culinary herbs. They hold the National Collection of Achillea millefolium and also specialise in Plants for Pollinators. The nursery follows organic growing methods. Plants can be ordered online and are sent by next day courier or you can “click and collect” at flower shows and plant fairs that they attend around the UK.

Discover the magic of herbal medicine with the Junior Herbalist Club (JHC), founded in 2014 by medical herbalist and naturopath Mel Hornby. JHC is a recognised extracurricular award-winning course for children and teens. The three-level program grows with participants: Levels 1 and 2 offer 10 hands-on sessions each, introducing children to herbal education through engaging, fun, practical activities. Level 3, designed for teens, explores advanced herbal medicine, body systems, critical thinking, and real-world applications. JHC adapts to age and ability, providing a safe, sensory-rich environment for younger students and challenging, in-depth learning for older ones. Participants experience a structured, inspiring journey that fosters knowledge, skills, and a love of herbs. Qualified Medical Herbalists or Naturopaths interested in teaching can train to become registered Junior Herbalist Leaders, joining a national register and receiving comprehensive leader training to ensure safe, high-quality instruction. We are the largest body of herbal practitioners in the UK. The organisation was first conceived in 1864 and was formally registered as the National Association of Medical Herbalists, becoming the National Institute in 1954, when the Secretary of State approved our level of expertise to use this protected title. Today, the Institute has members throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.

Our members have completed degree level qualifications or equivalent. We ensure high standards of education in herbal medicine and work to raise the professional standing of medical herbalists.

The Physic Garden is a medicinal garden hand built by and for women in Nelson, Lancashire.

Situated alongside the Leeds-to-Liverpool canal The Physic Garden is home to over 150 medicinal plants, it’s a space to enjoy, to learn about these plants and ourselves.

Entrance is free during monthly open afternoons, plant studies, workshops and artist collaborations. Groups, and individuals can also make arrangements to visit out of opening hours. All women are welcome.
The Physic Garden is an artwork by Idle Women created to last for 100 years. Idle Women is an art and social justice collaboration. Our projects reach for something beyond the horizon, creating transformative spaces for women that can’t be cut, closed or taken away.
Funds were raised by our community to purchase the land for the garden which is co-owned by Idle Women and Humraaz.

The School of Herbal Medicine is an educational charity which trains practitioners of Western Herbal Medicine.

Our 6-year programme offers rigorous, practice-centred training for those who want to work confidently with medicinal plants. Our teaching combines traditional herbal knowledge with modern clinical understanding, giving students a grounded, evidence-aware approach to plant medicine. Courses blend classroom learning, field botany, medicine-making, and supervised clinical experience, ensuring graduates develop both skill and discernment. Modules in development include Seaweeds, Mushrooms and Gemmotherapy.

We keep cohorts small to support close mentoring and genuine hands-on learning. Based in Somerset, UK the school is easily accessible from the M5 and to the bus and train stations making it possible to attend by public transport.

As a school, we are known for our curriculum vigour, high teaching standards, and excellent examination skills programme. This includes our well attended community student clinic which delivers weekly face-to-face interaction with patients.

Founded in 1970, the award-winning Weald & Downland Living Museum is a leading museum of historic buildings in England, covering 40 acres in the South Downs National Park in West Sussex.

It includes over 50 historic buildings dating from 950AD to the 19th century, re-erected from their original sites in south east England, together with period gardens, traditional farm animals and a mill pond. The exhibit buildings range from a reconstruction of a Saxon hall house to working buildings of the late 19th century.

The Museum also holds excellent collections relating to rural life, including agriculture, domestic life, trades and industries, and transport. As well as bringing to life the homes, farmsteads and rural industries represented by its collections and exhibits, other themes are strongly represented at the Museum, including landscape, agriculture, animal husbandry, science and sustainability.

Urban Herbology helps city people to integrate nature into their lives. We are a small international team based in Amsterdam who believe that herbal knowledge can make urban communities more healthy and resilient. Since 2010, we have been teaching how to safely incorporate local herbs, small-space gardening and self-care into sustainable city living. We offer urban foraging walks, workshops, courses and consultations. Urban Herbology also runs a community herb garden and a blended learning apprenticeship course.

The Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners is unique in the UK, in that we accept qualified herbalists from a wide range of traditions and positively value diversity within our ranks. The URHP was founded in 1997. Our members have completed extensive training and follow a comprehensive Code of Ethics and Conduct. As well as being fully qualified herbalists, some of our members are also kinesiologists, nurses, doctors, homeopaths, psychotherapists, acupuncturists and reiki practitioners.We are part of the EHTPA, the European Herbal and Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, involved with work and campaigns to guarantee the preservation and continuation of herbal medicine. We ensure that herbal training continues to be offered at a high standard by the accreditation and validation of courses.The URHP now use a registered trademark, the Herbmark, so that the public know they are consulting with a highly qualified practitioner and being prescribed treatments they can trust.
