Cover of Foraging for Nettle Medicine by Alyson Maier featuring an illustration of a mouse eating a bowl of nettles.

Foraging for Nettle Medicine

This is the fourth book Alyson has produced for children with the adventures of Sammy the mouse telling a story about foraging for nettles.

Sammy is with his grandfather after being told to bring gloves and a basket with him. Sammy learns that nettles are both food, drink and medicine something most children may not be aware of, instead they may be scared of them, because they have been stung by them previously.

Foraging is a natural instinct for humans on this earth, and these books encourage us to venture out and not be afraid, instead learn from the plants and our older generations. In the process of learning Sammy meets wildlife along the way, something again not to fear, but to respect.

Teaching about herbs and nature is something The Herb Society is proud of and we share that with our herbal community around the world. Alyson lives in Australia but is proud to call herbs her allies and writes beautifully illustrated stories about them, that are suitable for any age to enjoy.
