Join us for The Herb Society Autumn Gathering on Saturday 26th September at The Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham, a relaxed and welcoming day where we come together to celebrate our shared love of herbs, herbal learning, and the wonderful community that surrounds them. This gathering offers an opportunity to learn, share knowledge, and be inspired by others who share your passion.
Whether you’re a practising herbalist, a student, or simply beginning your herbal journey, you’ll find inspiration, encouragement, and friendship throughout the day. Alongside opportunities to expand your knowledge through engaging talks and discussions, there will be plenty of time to connect with like-minded people, exchange ideas and experiences, make new friends, and catch up with familiar faces.
At the heart of the Autumn Gathering is the belief that the herbal community grows stronger when we learn from one another and nurture the relationships within our community. We look forward to welcoming you for a day of learning, laughter, connection, and celebration.

Laura Pardoe will be talking about Topical Herbalism: Where natural skincare meets herbal practice. Laura is a Herb Society Trustee, founder of Field Fresh Skincare, co-founder of the Cotswold Herb Centre and author of Vital Skincare and, soon to be published, Gather and Glow. She brings together the deeply rooted traditions of herbalism and the commerciality of modern skincare. In her talk, she will discuss these different worlds, how they are merging, and the ingredient knowledge and product making skills herbalists can equip themselves with to achieve the ultimate aim of natural blend-it-yourself skincare: proactive maintenance of a healthy body, and a healthy mind.
The talk will be followed by an opportunity to try a range of skincare oils, balms and creams to get a literal feel for the qualities of different ingredients, blends and techniques.
We’ll be showing a video created by one of our event sponsors, Herb Pharm, about regenerative and organic farming. Most of us are familiar with “organic” farming. But as we learn more about soil health, land stewardship, and climate change, are you familiar with the principles of regenerative farming? Join Sarah Hasler as she discusses the history of the Regenerative Organic Certified standard, and how Herb Pharm worked in conjunction with the Regenerative Organic Alliance to pioneer this certification in the United States, and why this is important for 21st century herb farming.

An ambassador to The Herb Society, Rachel De Thample, will be launching her latest book at the event, The Fermentation Year: Everyday techniques and recipes to rewild your microbiome.
The magic of fermentation has a transformative effect on body and mind by increasing diversity on all levels and improving overall wellbeing. The act of making these delicious foods is a tonic within itself, making you feel more alive in every possible way as you harness the invisible life around you.
Seasonally structured, The Fermentation Year covers everything you need to know about fermenting at home all year round, including basic techniques for: kimchi; kefir (water and dairy); sauerkraut; pickles; fermented sauces, honey ferments; miso and other koji-based ferments; kombucha; vinegar and yoghurt.
The Fermentation Year will help you cherish the edible calendar and preserve the best of the season, while also avoiding waste and boosting flavour.
Rachel will also be giving a demonstration featuring ferments with herbs.
The event includes lunch, refreshments and a goody bag. We will be holding our second annual auction at the end of the day
