What a joy to pick up this book and leaf through the pages, which take the reader into another world.
Escaping the humdrum, and exploring the positive virtues from trees and shrubs. Anne’s book follows her previous one, which saw her develop a medicinal forest for teaching and making products from the forest – you can find a review of this on our website. As I’d expect from Anne, this book is well researched with super photography, and even includes recipes. Both science and personal experience are contained within the pages.
Part one introduces trees and shrubs used in healing, covering digestive issues, inflammation, anxiety, and wound healing – all with sustainability in mind.
Part two has 80 species profiled to help the reader identify and work with these plants, and features good illustrations and excellent photography throughout. Topics covered include herbal actions, traditional use, indication and research, active constituents, parts used, when to harvest, sample preparation and dosage, safety, related species, cultivation, further uses, and cautions.
This book reflects the importance of reconnection, connectivity and awareness of nature, it encourages interaction and observation on all levels, to gain respect for what nature provides. People often don’t realise that trees and shrubs have medicinal properties too, herbsare not just at ground level and the definition of a herb is somewhat vague to many.
Anne’s passion for education abounds, she is concerned about biodiversity and ecological damage, and
does something about it – a lesson to us all. My only disappointment is when it comes to the resources listed for courses and practitioner training, as it’s not a full list and omits some other very good training courses.
